Frustrated drivers in Grimsby are facing long queues of up to half an hour and "absolute carnage" as three-way traffic lights have been installed at the Lovelane Corner roundabout due to water works.

Miles of congestion can be seen from the roundabout all the way down to the Peaks Parkway and Weelsby Road traffic lights, with one driver describing the situation as "absolute carnage".

Motorists travelling on the other two entrances to the roundabout, Clee Road and Humberston Road, are experiencing similar delays.

One driver said it took him half an hour longer than usual to drive from Grimsby town centre to Cleethorpes on the evening of Tuesday, April 4, due to the miles of congestion on Weelsby Road.

He told Grimsby Live: "It was absolute carnage. I was stuck in traffic from the traffic lights at Peaks Parkway right up to the Lovelane Corner roundabout. I didn't realise there were temporary traffic lights there until I got close.

"There was a big water leak at the side of the road next to King George V Stadium so it's definitely a water issue."

Another eyewitness at the scene said they saw a "big hole in the ground" and Anglian Water signs around the roundabout.

A spokesperson for Anglian Water said: “We are aware of traffic difficulties in the Clee Road area and apologise for any disruption being caused. We are working on an issue and need to ensure we have the appropriate health and safety in place both for customers and also for our teams resolving the issue.

“Please be assured we are working as fast as we are able and will have this returned to normality soon.”
